Let God Turn Your Frown into a Smile
Yes, the photo is Chris Brown. On a Wednesday night, I watched a re-run of the BET 2010 Awards show in amazement. This young man, Chris Brown allowed his convictions about the song he sang in tribute to the late Michael Jackson, "Man in the Mirror" to minister to him (yes, songs with messages do that!). As he sincerely expressed his convictions about looking at himself, and "changing his ways", the audience began to encourage and applaud him! Chris regained the respect of his audiences that night. It was phenomenal to see him humbly express to America, on national television, that he had "let us down before, but he would not do it again." Way to go Chris! With great courage, Chris Brown made himself accountable to the same audience he had let down. He openly and boldly set aside his pride, to let all see his heart. That night Chris Brown made a real come back in his career.
Scripture says that pride goes before destruction (Prov. 16:18). It also teaches that God HATES pride (Prov. 8:13), and he resists those who are proud. (James 4:6) When you are prideful, it will not only put a frown on your face, but it has a way of off-setting others around you. Immature people are prideful. It is as simple as that. Humilty and discipline will undergird those who behave with understanding. (Prov. 11:2; 12:1) Chris Brown's unfortunate experience with his ex-girlfriend Rhiana (sp.?), was an example of foolish pride and unbridled anger. Everyone was hurt and disappointed! BUT the story does not end here - thank God! This precious young man, matured as a man in open forum when he took a responsible posture, repented (which means turns) and made himself fully accountable. In the days to come he will have to practice maturity, but at least now he is on the right path.
Some reading this Devotion may not agree, because Chris Brown is not a Gospel artist, but remember this: God came to earth, to save the world. With God there is no secular and sacred, there is his Kingdom and the world. You may still argue that Chris sings for the world. Okay, he does, but apparently, God is not sacrificing Chris for that issue! Let's continue to watch his life, and see how God handles it, because without a doubt - God turned his frown into a smile!
I had no idea that I would personally meet Chris the very next day after watching him on television. This is the beautiful smile he gave me, after I lovingly embraced him, telling him how proud I was of him for how he openly shared his heart on national tv.
My advice to everyone reading this devotion is: get off of the judgment seat and put away the chair of condemnation. Love others and watch God use you to the glory of his name.
Loving You... Really! Dr. Zee
